Home Genealogy People Places Kilian History, page 2 the Hengstfeld parish until 1670, after that the Wallhausen parish, until parish registers for Schainbach began in 1684. The baptismal records of Georg’s twelve children, including Andreas’ father Andreas, were found in the Hengstfeld church book. The marriage records of four of these children, including Andreas’ father, were found in the Wallhausen church book. All of these records say their parents were Georg Kilian and Apollonia and did not mention her maiden name. These records prove Georg Kilian was the grandfather of the North Carolina pioneer Andreas Kilian. A baptismal record for Georg Kilian dated the 13th of January 1616 was found in Limbach, only 1.9 kilometers from Schainbach. It’s wording does not absolutely prove the Georg Kilian, who lived and died in Schainbach, is the same Georg Kilian baptized in Limbach on the 13th of January 1616, but the circumstantial case was compelling and records found later prove they are the same person. That the Georg Kilian who was a farmer in Schainbach is the grandfather of the immigrant Andreas Kilian is well documented by an unbroken chain of baptismal, marriage and burial records. Georg’s burial record, dated the 24th of March 1665, said he was approximately 50 years old at death. If Georg was indeed baptized on the 13th of January 1616, he was 49 years 2 months and 11 days old at death. This Georg’s father, also named Georg, was born in Kühnhard. The Georg Kilian who lived in Schainbach had family connections to Kühnhard. He had a son named Martin, and this name suggests a connection to the Kühnhard Kilians, who had many Martins in the family. Georg’s son Martin married Barbara Crauß from Kühnhard and his daughter Apollonia married Hans Ebert from Kühnhard. Also the first wife of his son Andreas was named Dorothea Knaus and because of differences in the way names were spelled Knaus and Crauß could be the same family. The only Kilians with proven direct line relationships lived in Schainbach, Kühnhard, Limbach and Steinbach. All of the Kilian church book records found over five generations covering almost 200 years until Andreas immigrated to America in 1732, show the family never moved more than 10 kilometers from Schainbach. The church books of thirty-three villages over four time this distance away were searched for Georg’s baptismal record. The only baptismal record for a Georg Kilian, not over a generation removed, was found in Limbach only 1.9 kilometers from Schainbach, where Georg lived and died. All twelve baptismal records of Georg’s children said their mother was Apollonia, but gave no maiden name. The marriage record of Georg and Apollonia was found much later in Triensbach. Apollonia was the daughter of Michael Burckard. Georg and Apollonia married in Triensbach on the 21st of October 1649. Treinsbach is 15 Kilometers from Limbach. At the time of the marriage Georg lived in Lobenhausen, 9 kilometers from Schainbach and Apollonia was a widow living in Lenkerstetten, 16 kilometers from Schainbach. It is not known if Apollonia had children from her first marriage or when she married the first time. This marriage record did not name Georg’s parents, so it did not bring us any closer to proving he was the Georg baptized in Limbach. Marriage of Georg Kilian and Ursula Raysigs on the 20th of February 1642, in Triesbach At the same time it was discovered that Georg Kilian had an earlier wife. He married Ursula, daughter of Steffan Raysigs, on the 20th of February 1642, also in Triensbach. This marriage record said Georg was a farmer in Schainbach and son of the Georg Kilian. This marriage record makes the long sought link between the Georg Kilian born in Limbach and the Georg Kilian, husband of Apollonia, farmer in Schainbach. Georg and Ursula had five known children before she died on the 8th  of July 1649. She was buried the next day, three months before he married Apollonia Burckard. Baptism of the children of Georg Kilian and Ursula Raysigs, all in Triensbach        1. Ursula Kilian baptized on the 9th of April 1644.        2. She died 6 days after the twins Leonhard and Maria were born. Maria died on the 12th of July 1649, when she was 12 days old. Chidren of Georg Kilian and Apollonia Burckard 1. Maria Kilian (a twin), born 1665 in Schainbach, Baden- Württemberg, Deutschland, died 1666 in Schainbach, Baden- Württemberg, Deutschland. The marriage record of their son Andreas says he was married in Erzberg, Mittelfranken, Bavaria, the parish of his wife Anna Busch. The marriage record was later copied into the church book of Andreas' parish in Wallhausen. This together with his second marriage record and the baptismal records of his children proves: Andreas was the immigrant Andreas's father and that Georg Kilian was his grandfather. Of their twelve children there were two pairs of twins. The last twin girls named Eva Barbara and Maria, were born posthumously on the 18th of November 1665. They both died before they were a year old. Another daughter named Kunigunda died the same day she was born. Georg died leaving Apollonia a widow with minor children. The youngest two not yet born and the eldest, a daughter named Apollonia, was only 14 years old. On the 6th of March 1666 Georg's widow Apollonia married Lienhard [Leonhard] Claiß (other records say Glaß). Leonhard died after nine years of marriage at the age of 30 and was buried on the 3rd of March 1675. Lienhard and Apollonia had one known child that was stillborn in Schainbach on the 9th of November 1673. Lienhard Claiß was from Steinbach an der Holzecke. This is the same village where the wife of Apollonia's son Andreas lived and Andreas moved there at least by the time he was married. But we know Lienhard and Apollonia did not move to Steinbach an der Holzecke, because Lienhard died in Schainbach. Apollonia was again left a widow with minor children, but by this time: Her daugher Apollonia was 24 years old, Andreas was 23, Michael was 21. All of the other surviving children were minors. From data in the records it is calculated that Lienhard was born in 1645 and was 29 years younger than Apollonia's first husband Georg. Georg and Apollonia's first child, also named Apollonia, was born in 1651 when Lienhard was only six years old. Based on Apollonia's first known child's birth date, she had to have been born at least before 1632, perhaps earlier. So she was at least 13 years older than her second husband.
